About Penylan
Encompassing a steep hill, Penylan means 'The Summit'. It lies in the Parish of Roath, and was incorporated into Cardiff in 1875.The somewhat ugly cooling towers, a blight on the landscape, were demolished in 1972.
Houses started appearing on Colchester Avenue in 1912.
The famous Howardian High School was tragically demolished in the 1980's to make way for more houses. The 'Brewers was a regular haunt of teachers and pupils alike.
Michael Morritz, a former head boy, recently became the richest man in Wales, following successful investment in Google.
