About City Centre

Unusually for a city, the town centre is very compact, but well furnished with pubs, bars, nightclubs, shops, theatres and restaurants. And the Millennium Stadium for good measure.

It is adjacent to the fabulous Bute Park, running alongside the Castle.

The name Cardiff is a corruption of Caer Taff, meaning the fort on the Taff, the river running down the West of the centre. This river used to run down Westgate Street. Those late catching a barge there would run down the aptly named Golate to a later point to try to catch it. Note that this thoroughfare has no 'street' or 'road' suffix.
