History

Built in 1844 as the Birdcage Inn. It was renamed to the Arcade and Post Office, and finally the Old Arcade, the name of the arcade that runs alongside it, leading into the covered market.

Refurbished November 2006.

Inside

Now a non-smoking pub, with a covered courtyard for smokers, this is a fairly large traditional pub, with a traditional pub atmosphere, often provided by the loyal regulars.

Decorated in cream and dark green, with a mahogany bar, in the rear lounge an original carved mirror faces you as you enter. The lounge has its own bar.

The pub also attracts a mix of office workers, shoppers, and tourists. It is also sports minded - very much a rugby supporters pub.
