History

Like many properties at the time, this used to be a private house with many acres of land.

At one time it was a hotel.

Around the 1970's, it was the Shay Wen strip bar.

Refurbished September 2005, with new drive, car park, and large new decked veranda with splendid views over Cardiff. Due to be useable all year with protective awning in inclement weather.

Inside

Access to the pub is on the Newport to Cardiff side of Newport Road via a small lane. Now with clear, well lit pub signs. It is well worth the visit, as this is like a Country pub with a restuarant and views on a clear day as far as Bristol.

The good range of food is attractively priced, with blackboard marked specials.

The Monkstone must have the largest car park for a Cardiff pub, room enough for coaches. And alongside is a large grassed beer garden and even a large French boules area.

Due to have a cask marque soon, sporting 4 real ales.
