It survived the blitz when all around was decimated. They provided shelter for homeless people, with free ale. Such was the gratitude that the whip round thank-you amount exceeded their normal takings.
Formerly the Cold-stream until 1991, it used to be an Ansels pub, and is one of very few that still sell Ansels beer.
